Heavenly Horses Festival Brings Excitement to Xinjiang

The 2025 Xinjiang Ili Heavenly Horses Festival, currently taking place in Zhaosu County, is a vibrant celebration of equestrian heritage, showcasing thrilling competitions, seminars, youth combat matches, and cultural performances.

Having commenced with an opening ceremony on Saturday, this five-month festival runs from May to October and will feature a total of 16 diverse and engaging events.

Zhaosu, often referred to as 'China's Land of Heavenly Horses', has a rich history of horse breeding that stretches back thousands of years. The region is particularly celebrated for the Ili horse, a breed known for its powerful build and agile capabilities.

Since its inception in 1992, the festival has evolved into a significant cultural and tourism event in Zhaosu County, celebrating the deep-rooted heritage of horse culture while promoting ethnic traditions and boosting local tourism.
