Space Balloon Company Reveals Luxury Space Lounge Experience
Highlights
A space tourism company plans a luxurious 'space lounge' at $125,000 per ticket, offering views of Earth from 20 miles up.
A new player in the space tourism sector has announced an innovative 'space lounge' experience, inviting adventurers to witness the stunning curvature of the Earth from a luxury cabin. The tickets for this unique experience are priced at $125,000 each, targeting those eager for a glimpse of our planet from 20 miles above the surface.
On Tuesday, Space Perspective unveiled captivating illustrations of its state-of-the-art cabins. The company plans to commence flights from the iconic Kennedy Space Center in Florida starting in late 2024. To date, more than 600 tickets have been sold, underscoring the burgeoning interest in this extraordinary venture.
Designed with 1.5-meter-high windows, plush deep seats, and a soothing color scheme of dark purples and gentle lighting, the interior of the Neptune capsule presents a stark contrast to the stark white, sterile environments of competing offerings.
Enhancing this luxurious experience, the 'Space Lounge' within the capsule features Wi-Fi connectivity and a dedicated drinks bar where guests can relax as they ascend into the upper atmosphere.
Unlike competitors like Virgin Galactic, which takes passengers to just over 50 miles, or Blue Origin, which exceeds the Karman Line at 62 miles, the balloon from Space Perspective reaches an altitude of 20 miles. This height, while lower than other commercial space flights, is still well above the cruising altitude of commercial airplanes.
"We are above 99 percent of Earth's atmosphere," stated co-founder Jayne Poynter in an interview, highlighting that passengers will experience the profound darkness of space during their ascent.
A significant advantage of this experience is the ease of participation; no special training is required for passengers. The ride features a gentle ascent at a speed of 12 miles per hour, offering a greener, zero-emissions alternative to traditional rocket launches, which rely heavily on fossil fuels.
In a commitment to sustainability, the company aims to source the hydrogen for its balloon from renewable resources, steering clear of fossil fuel-derived materials.
Compared to the $450,000 tickets offered by Virgin Galactic, the price of this two-hour ascent followed by a two-hour glide and descent is considerably more accessible. While Blue Origin's pricing remains undisclosed, it is believed to be significantly higher than the Space Perspective offering.
Despite this luxurious setup, passengers should note that they will not experience weightlessness during their journey. Unlike Virgin Galactic and Blue Origin, where passengers can experience brief periods of zero gravity, the design of the Neptune capsule does not facilitate such sensations.
Overall, this innovative approach to space tourism not only democratizes access to the wonders of space but also positions itself as a greener alternative, paving the way for a new era of luxury travel among the stars.
